UEFA Europe League Final 2012 - The highest level of traffic registered between 7-11 May

Bucharest Airports National Company registered during 7-9 May, a total of 16,757 passengers arriving with charter flights at the two airports of Bucharest - Bucharest Henri CoandaInternational Airport and Bucharest Baneasa Aurel Vlaicu International Airport - to attend UEFA Europe League Final 2012.

On the 9th of May, the day of the Final, the number of passengers arriving with charter flights -a total of 24,025 - surpassed by far the number of passengers arriving on scheduled flights on a typical day at Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport -about 10,000.

The total number of passengers transiting Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport on the 9th of May was of 34,711 and on the 10th of May was of 36,158 passengers, the departures flow capacity being increased from 1,200 to 3,000 passengers per hour.

On the 9th of Mayone of the two runways of Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport was especially turned into parking for this event, thus hosting the charter aircraft, a record number of 108 aircraft being parked, of which 74 being supporters charter flights.

For the first time in its history of 100 years, Bucharest Baneasa Aurel Vlaicu International Airport hosted a 747-700 Boeing that landed on May the 7th and brought 475 passengers: the Athletic Bilbao team and supporters. It was followed by the aircraft of Atletico Madrid team, which landed at Baneasa, too, with 200 passengers on board.

During UEFA Europa League Final, a total number of 77 charter flights were operated at Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport and Baneasa Bucharest Aurel VlaicuInternational Airport.

Operationally speaking, this event was a huge challenge, which Bucharest Airports professionally dealt with, the scheduled flights being carried out normally on both airports. The test for the busiest day in the history of Henri Coanda Airport came up trumps, the Europe League Final being turned into a bet won by Bucharest Airports National Company.
