ACI Carbon Accreditation Extended

Bucharest Airports National Company has received from the Airports Council International (ACI) the extension of the carbon accreditation for Henri Coandă International Airport, at Level 3 – Reduction, valid until June 30, 2026.

“Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport have earned the accreditation of Level 3, in recognition of the airport's exemplary work in reducing its carbon emissions and engaging other stakeholders to do the same, as part of the Global airport industry's response to the challenge of Climate Change.” reads the accreditation certificate issued by ACI Europe. The achievement is particularly significant given that carbon reductions were accomplished in parallel with a substantial increase in passenger and aircraft traffic.

The certification is granted following a detailed assessment of both carbon emissions and the measures implemented by airport authorities, as well as by infrastructure users (airlines, handling agents, refueling, catering providers, etc.). The program’s credibility is ensured by independent verifiers, while its approval committee includes prestigious institutions such as the European Commission, ICAO, the United Nations, EUROCONTROL, FAA, and ECAC.

At the same time, Bucharest Băneasa – Aurel Vlaicu International Airport has been reaccredited at Level 2 – Reduction, with the same validity, until June 30, 2026.

Currently, the global Airport Carbon Accreditation program covers 620 airports worldwide, including 286 in Europe, of which 64 are accredited at Level 3. Launched in Europe in 2009 and expanded worldwide in 2014, the program has become the global standard for carbon management in airports, supporting the airport community in reducing its carbon footprint.
