Bucharest Airports – Ready for Winter

The Bucharest National Airports Company (CNAB) organized, on Wednesday, October 21, the annual review of special winter intervention equipment at Henri Coandă Airport. During the event, representatives of the special operations departments demonstrated the procedures for snow removal and de-icing of runways, aprons, and taxiways at the airports.

All types of multifunctional equipment operating in coordination on the airport were showcased, each having a clearly defined role in snow removal and de-icing operations: compact vehicles capable of operating at speeds of up to 50 km/h; special equipment used under aircraft wings; multifunctional snow blowers designed to remove large snow accumulations formed by blizzards and heavy snowfall; high-speed runway snow cutters, and others.

All 58 high-performance units available to Bucharest’s the two airports are fully prepared to intervene at any time when weather conditions require.

The winter operations equipment review takes place annually and is part of the airport’s overall preparedness program for winter-specific activities. Winter readiness at the airport involves consultations among all entities involved (airport operator, ground handling companies, airlines, ROMATSA, and contractual partners), maintenance of equipment, the technical review event, periodic training of airport personnel, and reinforcement of teams engaged in snow removal and de-icing activities, among other measures.

Bucharest National Airports Company assures passengers and airlines that it has both the equipment and the trained personnel necessary for special winter operations and that all required measures have been taken to ensure the safe operation of aircraft during the cold season at both of the Capital’s airports.
